Zhang Wenhong: China’s Pandemic Fight Can and Should Allow for Normal Life

The reality is not ideal. Recently, Shanghai went through its worst Covid-19 wave since the pandemic broke out with more cases than expected, resulting in strained medical resources. Several backup hospitals were put into use.
While visiting hospitals designed for Covid patients, I am also concerned about our centralized quarantine sites. Most of the sites are newly established, and teams are still learning to work well with each other. Though the quarantine sites mainly receive asymptomatic and mild cases, there is a risk that infections might progress and become severe. Moreover, we must also address workers’ worries about being infected.
