China OKs Six New Nuclear Reactors

Beijing has given the green light to the construction of six new nuclear reactors, which analysts estimate will involve some 120 billion yuan ($18.6 billion) of investment.

The new nuclear power investment comes as China works toward its plan of peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and reaching net-zero emissions by 2060.

According to a Wednesday statement from the State Council, three existing nuclear power plants — located in Sanmen county, Zhejiang province; Haiyang, Shandong province; and Lufeng, Guangdong province — will each get two new reactors.
