Shanghai Reports Steep Rebound in Covid Cases as Citywide Testing Intensifies

Shanghai reported Saturday a surge in Covid-19 infections, including 2,736 symptomatic and 20,634 asymptomatic cases, ending five consecutive days of declines, which complicates government efforts to bring a tipping point to the country’s worst virus outbreak in two years.

Five districts of the Chinese commercial hub recorded significant surges in daily caseload, among which Pudong New Area registered the highest spike of about 3,000 cases, local government said Saturday during a press conference.
