Beijing Intensifies Covid Lab Inspections Amid Testing Fraud

Beijing is subjecting its Covid testing industry to broader inspections in an effort to eliminate unqualified testing companies, after a string of false results fueled concern over testing procedures.

False results undermine the city’s month-long efforts to suppress its Covid outbreak, according to the authorities. Some companies which helped the government conduct mass testing were found to have mishandled samples, increasing the risk of false-negatives which could lead to the spread of the virus in the community, and false-positives which could lead to citizens facing quarantine unnecessarily.
