After Record Drought, Southwest China Now Faces Torrential Rain and Flooding

After grappling with weeks of scorching heat, Sichuan province and Chongqing are now experiencing torrential downpours, leading local authorities to issue flood alerts and evacuate tens of thousands of people.

Days of heavy rainfall had badly affected 35,000 residents in the southwestern province and led to the evacuation of more than 119,000 people as of Monday morning, state broadcaster CCTV reported that day.
