SMIC to build $7.5 billion wafer plant

Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC), the Chinese mainland’s biggest chipmaker, said in a Friday exchange filing that it plans to build a 12-inch wafer production line in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin with an investment of $7.5 billion.
