China’s Gotion Plans $2.36 Billion Battery Material Plant in Michigan

Chinese electric-vehicle battery maker Gotion High-Tech Co. Ltd. will invest $2.36 billion to build a battery material plant in Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer said Wednesday.
Volkswagen-backed Gotion won state government support under a federal push to develop the EV industry, the Democratic governor said. Michigan has long been the center of the American auto industry with vehicle assembly plants and component factories employing thousands spread all across the state. General Motors, Ford and the Chrysler unit of Stellantis are based in the Detroit area.
