Shanghai is ramping up the hiring of workers to test and trace residents and travelers for Covid as cases rise again after the weeklong National Day holiday. Authorities in seven districts said nearly 1,000 positions are on offer, with contracts valid for two years.

The city’s Pudong New Area expects it will need more than half of the new staff, according to a notice issued Monday. Such workers usually help local authorities coordinate lockdowns and quarantine transfers as well as trace Covid cases and outbreaks.
