Covid Surge Slashes BYD’s Auto Output by 2,000 Vehicles a Day or More

(Bloomberg) — China’s wave of Covid infections is costing electric-car giant BYD Co. production of at least 2,000 cars a day, a top executive said Thursday. BYD is the latest large-scale manufacturer to report significant disruptions as the pandemic rages across the country.
“These few days Covid has infected a bunch of our workers, severely impacting our production,” BYD Executive Vice President Lian Yu-bo said at the APEC SME Business Forum 2022 in Shenzhen. “Every day we’re producing 2,000 to 3,000 fewer cars.”
