China’s travel and leisure sector rebounded strongly during the first Lunar New Year holiday without Covid-19 restrictions in four years, as crowds flocked to domestic tourist hot spots, headed overseas or even just caught a movie at the cinema, industry data suggest.

But even as people used their new-found freedom to splurge on recreation, the lingering financial impact on household income from years of disruptions and months-long lockdowns due to the pandemic curtailed spending on bigger ticket items such as cars and real estate, data show.
