China admitted that the unmanned airship is from China on Friday after the U.S. detected the suspected surveillance balloon entering the airspace over the northwestern U.S. state of Montana

China’s foreign ministry said in a statement Saturday that the “unintended entry” of a unmanned Chinese airship over the U.S. was an accident caused by “force majeure,” while accusing U.S. politicians and media of hyping up the incident to “attack and smear” China.

The Chinese side regrets the unintended entry of the airship into U.S. airspace due to force majeure. China will continue communicating with the U.S. and properly handle this unexpected situation, the ministry said in a separate Friday statement
