Former Regional China Central Banker Gets 15-Year Prison Term for Corruption

Yang Mingji, a former head of the Lanzhou branch of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of economic crimes including accepting 30.38 million yuan ($4.4 million) in bribes.
The official was also found guilty of embezzling 5 million yuan in public funds and paying officials more than 140,000 yuan in bribes in return for favors, according to a notice released by the central bank Thursday. In addition to the prison sentence, the court in Lanzhou, the capital of the northwestern province of Gansu, fined Yang 1.1 million yuan, the notice said.
