IQiyi Waters Down Plan to Cash In on Popular Feature After User Uproar

Baidu Inc.-backed streaming platform iQiyi Inc. — China’s answer to Netflix — has caved on a plan to stop subscribers from dodging extra fees when streaming higher definition content on their televisions after a consumer backlash and legal threats.

In January, the video app service prevented users from ‘casting’ videos from their phones to televisions and virtual reality devices, triggering a challenge by a Shanghai consumer group and some users who said it was a breach of the contracts they had agreed to.
