TikTok CEO defends app from barrage of congressional criticism

TikTok Chief Executive Shou Zi Chew defended his company against a barrage of criticism from hostile U.S. lawmakers Thursday, repeatedly asserting the app’s independence from its Chinese owners as he tried to dispense with concerns about the security of user data.
