External Containment Efforts and Aging Population Are Major Challenges to China’s Growth, Senior Official Says

China needs to overcome two major challenges to drive strong economic growth in the future — its aging population and external efforts to contain its rise, a senior economic official of the Communist Party’s Central Committee said Saturday.

Speaking at the China Development Forum hosted by the State Council’s think tank, the Development Research Center, Han Wenxiu, executive deputy director of the Central Financial and Economic Affairs Commission’s general office, indicated that the two factors are obstacles to the mid- and long-term growth of China’s economy.
