Chinese social media has been seething with rage and disappointment amid unconfirmed online reports that a Chinese table tennis superstar traded some very personal videos of his famous ex-girlfriend in exchange for paying off a large gambling debt.

Since Monday, the swirling speculation has led multiple brands, including sportswear-maker Anta Sports, to cut ties with the athlete, three-time Olympic gold medalist Zhang Jike.
