As a price war ravages the auto market in China, some in the industry are calling for the government to step in. But changing market dynamics make state intervention a less effective solution, experts said.

The wave of price cutting started late last year in the electric vehicle sphere, led by Tesla Inc. It escalated since March and spread across the industry, dragging in makers of conventional fossil fuel cars.
