China’s youth jobless rate reached a record high in April despite a decline in the overall unemployment rate, with some suggesting that this was the result of too many college graduates entering the workforce and competing to find a job.

However, this view may underestimate how much the unemployment rate has been affected by the country’s large number of young people in the workforce with no better than a high school education.
