President Xi Jinping stressed the need to build a high-quality education system in China while strengthening the country’s innovation capacity, as part of efforts to make China a major education power with global influence.

During a group study session of the Central Committee’s politburo Monday, Xi urged top party officials to accelerate developing world-class universities and continue opening up the education sector to the outside world, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
