China’s education companies are racing to develop ChatGPT-like products amid a global frenzy over the AI-powered chatbot, sparking a discussion on whether this would transform the country’s exam-focused education system.

In May, TAL Education Group announced its online school unit was developing a large AI math model called MathGPT. The private tutoring company said Xueersi expects to launch an application based on the model later this year.
