The family of victims of a gruesome murder case has accused a municipal police officer of “maliciously defaming” them on social media as they seek a public apology and damages for emotional distress.

In 2020, a man in East China’s Jiangxi province killed a local couple and severely injured their 7-year-old grandson. The couple’s daughter, surnamed Kang, then took to social media to question the inaction of local police but was met with criticism and backlash over her intentions, including from Xin Ping, a police officer with the Fuzhou municipal public security bureau in Jiangxi, Kang told Caixin.
