Update: China and U.S. Move to Ratchet Down Tensions

President Xi Jinping met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken Monday in Beijing in a sign of thawing in relations as the world’s two largest economies seek to reduce tensions and the risk of miscalculations.

The two countries can “overcome various difficulties and find ways” to achieve a “sound and steady” bilateral relationship, Xi said, according to a statement released after the meeting by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
