(Bloomberg) — China agreed to a 27-year liquefied natural gas deal with Qatar, mirroring a similar commitment signed in 2022, in a further move to safeguard its energy security.

State-owned China National Petroleum Corp., the country’s largest oil company, agreed Tuesday to buy 4 million tons annually from QatarEnergy beginning in 2026. CNPC also will take a 5% equity stake in a production train at Qatar’s North Field East expansion project, Saad al-Kaabi, the Persian Gulf nation’s energy minister and boss of QatarEnergy said at a signing ceremony in Doha.
