What’s new: Chinese authorities have held nine people linked to a gas explosion at a barbecue restaurant on Wednesday in Northwest China that had killed 31 people as of Thursday morning. Those held include the restaurant’s manager, shareholders and staff members, state media reported.

The explosion occurred that evening at the restaurant in Yinchuan, capital of the Ningxia Hui autonomous region. It was triggered by a leak of liquefied petroleum gas, the state-run Xinhua News Agency reported, citing regional party authorities.
