What’s new: Pan Gongsheng, a deputy governor of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), has been named as the central bank’s new Communist Party chief, the PBOC said in a statement on Saturday, potentially putting him on track to be the next governor.

Pan replaces Guo Shuqing, who stepped down, while central bank Governor Yi Gang vacated the position of deputy party secretary, the central bank said.
