Another Regulatory Official Probed in China’s Sweeping Tobacco Industry Crackdown

An anti-corruption crackdown continues to sweep China’s state-dominated tobacco industry, ensnaring another official from the top regulatory body.
Zhang Hong, a former head of the technology department of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA), has been placed under investigation. The country’s top graft buster, the Central Commission for Discipline and Inspection (CCDI) said in a brief statement on Tuesday that Zhang is suspected of “serious violation of law and discipline”. The CCDI offered scant details on the allegations against Zhang, but the phrase often refers to corruption.
