China Evergrande Group has finally laid bare the barrels of red ink on its balance sheet as it released its long-delayed annual results, underscoring the challenges facing the world’s most indebted developer as it seeks a major debt restructuring.
The Guangzhou-based company reported a loss attributable to shareholders of 105.9 billion yuan ($14.8 billion) for the full year in 2022, following a loss of 476 billion yuan the previous year, according to filings to the Hong Kong stock exchange Monday. The two full years of losses are orders of magnitude larger than the 8.1 billion yuan profit the company reported in 2020.
