Torrential rains swept Beijing and surrounding regions as the remnants of tropical storm Doksuri lashed northern China, killing two people and forcing tens of thousands to evacuate.
Record-breaking downpours were recorded Monday morning at 14 weather observation stations in Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi and Shandong. The National Meteorological Center issued the highest red alert for rainstorms in the region three days in a row starting Saturday as Typhoon Doksuri made its way northward after smashing into the coastal province Fujian late last week.
