Southwest China’s Sichuan province has unveiled a plan to set it on track to become a “world-class lithium battery production base” within the next five years, capitalizing on its bountiful lithium reserves and hydropower resources.

The goal is to top 800 billion yuan ($110 billion) of total production value by 2027, according to the document released Wednesday by the Sichuan Provincial Economic and Information Department and other agencies.
