What’s new: A former mayor of Jinan in East China’s Shandong province has been removed from public office and expelled from the Communist Party of China over alleged crimes including taking bribes and falsifying economic data, authorities said Monday.

Sun Shutao, who was also a former senior political adviser in Shandong, had “gravely breached party discipline” and should be “seriously dealt with,” the party’s top anti-graft watchdog said in a statement.
