TSMC Gets Extension of U.S. Waiver on Chipmaking Gear

(Bloomberg) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. received an extension to its exemption from U.S. trade sanctions on China, allowing it to continue acquiring advanced chip equipment for its operations in China.
The Taiwanese chipmaker, also known as TSMC, expects eventually to win permanent U.S. authorization to secure sophisticated machinery for its operations in the world’s largest semiconductor market, the company said in an emailed statement to Bloomberg News.
