What’s New: Lithium prices in China continued to drop to a more than two-year low as supply overwhelms demand.
The major January lithium carbonate futures contract traded on the Guangzhou Futures Exchange closed at 93,000 yuan ($13,000) per ton Tuesday, hitting a new low since the contract was launched in July. Its price broke the 100,000-yuan threshold for the first time Monday. Prices of other lithium carbonate futures contracts for later delivery dates also fell.
