(Hong Kong) — Hong Kong will continue to play a key role in leading the “megatrends” of finance, innovation and sustainability, said chief executive John Lee at a Saudi-backed conference in the city Thursday.

The Asian financial hub has been striving to boost its attractiveness, which was dealt a blow by its tough response to the pandemic.

“Hong Kong is the world’s pre-eminent gateway, and a ‘super value-adder’ for economies, cultures and peoples, East and West,” said Lee during a keynote speech at the FII Priority Summit. And the city offers unparalleled access to the Chinese mainland and the rest of the world, made possible by the “one country, two systems” principle, he added.
