Chinese flag carrier Air China Ltd. (601111.SH) has announced plans to buy 17 homegrown jets to expand its fleet, giving the Chinese-made C919 a competitive boost, as the state-owned giant seeks to further capitalize on a gradual rebound in air travel that helped it achieve its first quarterly profit in three years.

The planes, all developed by Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China Ltd. (Comac), include six C919 single-aisle planes and 11 ARJ21 regional jets, according to a company filing Friday. They are expected to be delivered between 2024 and 2025, the filing said.
