In what was the first year of the full resumption of international travel following nearly three years of Covid controls, China’s diplomacy gained new impetus in 2023.

Within a short month following the conclusion of the Two Sessions — the Chinese government’s annual plenary meetings — in March, Beijing hosted a slew of foreign leaders from countries and organizations including Brazil, the European Commission, France, Malaysia, Singapore and Spain, marking a renewed engagement with the rest of the world.
