The day after China’s video game regulator released a draft of new regulations for the industry — sparking a selloff of stocks in the sector — it issued a statement noting that the proposed changes were still open for further revisions based on additional feedback.
The follow-up statement, which the National Press and Publication Administration issued on Dec. 23, was intended to calm the market as the draft had dredged up memories of the turbulent tech crackdown of 2021.
