The northern city of Harbin in China’s rust belt was without a doubt the most popular tourist destination in the country at the start of the year. That’s surprising.
The capital of Heilongjiang province has benefited from a wave of popularity from internet users, who have humorously dubbed travelers from the further south as “little southern potatoes,” a term of endearment for the tourists who flock to the city from places that usually don’t see snow.
