A local court has ordered the suspension of a million-dollar ecology protection and restoration project in East China’s Jiangsu province due to the risks it poses to coastal wetlands in Lianyungang, which serve as an important stopover site for international migratory birds.
Nicknamed “Blue Bay,” the project posed a “real risk of damaging the foraging grounds and habitats of birds,” the Nanjing Intermediate People’s Court said in a verdict recently seen by Caixin, halting the construction work by state-owned Lianyungang Golden Coast Development and Construction Co. Ltd. (连云港金海岸开发建设有限公司) until the project is legally approved.
