CATL Says ‘Skateboard Chassis’ Offers EV-Makers Huge R&D Savings

Electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers can save up to 70% on research and development expenses if they build their cars based on battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd.’s (CATL) (300750.SZ) (宁德时代) “skateboard chassis” platform, a CATL subsidiary executive said.

The CATL Integrated Intelligent Chassis (CIIC) integrates batteries, electric motors, motor controllers and other key components under one structure. It also includes CATL’s cell-to-chassis technology, a battery installation technology that reduces battery weight and enables cars to travel further on a single charge.
