Taiwan Affairs Office Appoints New Deputy Director

China’s former ambassador to New Zealand Wu Xi has been appointed deputy director of the Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO), according to a Wednesday announcement.

Wu, currently director-general of the Consular Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is one of three deputies and the first woman to hold the position at the office, which operates directly under the State Council, China’s cabinet.
