What’s new: Liu Xiaoming, former deputy head of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined 600,000 yuan ($82,900) for taking bribes, according to a statement released Thursday by Beijing First Intermediate People’s Court.
Liu is one of the latest officials to be sent to prison amid an ongoing campaign against corruption in the country’s education system. A number of former senior government officials, as well as university leaders, have been caught in graft probes since last year, including a department head at the Ministry of Education.
