“Explore Ways of Coexisting,” China’s Defense Chief Tells U.S. Counterpart

The Chinese and U.S. militaries should “explore ways of coexisting,” China’s defense minister told his counterpart during a video call this week, in the first direct communication between the countries’ defense chiefs in around one and half years.

During the call held Tuesday night, Defense Minister Dong Jun stressed the importance of prioritizing stability, building trust and valuing peace. He said both sides should work toward a relationship that is open, pragmatic and cooperative.
