China and the U.S. should “seek common ground and reserve differences, rather than engage in vicious competition,” President Xi Jinping told visiting Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday, as the world’s two largest economies accelerate efforts to stabilize ties.
During a meeting in Beijing with Blinken, who is on his second trip to China in less than a year, Xi said that “China and the United States should be partners rather than rivals; help each other succeed rather than hurt each other; seek common ground and reserve differences, rather than engage in vicious competition; and honor words with actions, rather than say one thing but do the opposite,” according to the state-run Xinhua News Agency.
