Commentary: Politburo Signals Little Change in Economic Policy After ‘Good Start’ to 2024

The April meetings of the Politburo have traditionally been highly significant. Based on China’s economic performance since the beginning of the year, the country’s leaders decide whether policy direction and specific measures should be continued or adjusted.
This year’s meeting, which took place on April 30, hailed the economic outcome achieved at the start of the year. The leadership noted that the economy saw an increase in “positive indicators,” and it did not propose any shift in policies, stating that the current proactive policy stance would be maintained.
