An insurance regulatory veteran has been tapped to chair the Shanghai Insurance Exchange (SIE) just as the former chairman of the government-backed trading platform came under investigation, sources with knowledge of the matter told Caixin.

The appointment of Wang Zhe, a former president of China Banking and Insurance Information Technology Management Co. Ltd. (CBIITM), as the SIE’s new chairman and head of its Communist Party committee was disclosed internally at the exchange on April 30, the sources said.
