Back Tax Demands Highlight Financial Pressure on Local Government

(Bloomberg) — Local governments in China have been asking companies to pay tax bills dating as far back as the 1990s, underscoring their need for funding due to the uneven economic recovery and persistent property slump.
A number of listed firms have said in exchange filings that they have received government demands to pay tens of millions in back taxes and warned investors this could affect their earnings.
