(Bloomberg) — A Chinese spacecraft carrying samples collected on the far side of the Moon returned to Earth Tuesday, an important milestone for China’s lunar exploration.
The Chang’e-6 spacecraft touched down on Inner Mongolia grasslands at around 2 p.m. local time, according to a video stream from state media.
The first mission to bring back samples from the Moon’s far side, Chang’e-6 is expected to have collected 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds) from the South Pole-Aitken Basin, one of the oldest impact craters in the solar system.
