Beijing Prepares to Allow Robotaxis on its Streets Despite Growing Backlash

(Bloomberg) — Beijing will support the introduction of robotaxis in ride-hailing and car rental fleets in the capital as advanced driver assistance systems become more commonplace in China.
Draft guidelines issued by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology insist that autonomous vehicles should have a driver or safety officer on board, or be able to be controlled remotely, while the robotaxi is in operation, and that local laws and regulations apply in regard to any traffic violation.
