Former Shenzhen Mayor Gets Life Sentence for Taking $15 Million Bribes

Chen Rugui, the former mayor of Shenzhen, a tech hub in southern China, was sentenced to life in prison for accepting more than 108 million yuan ($15.1 million) in bribes during his 19-year career in officialdom.
A court in Nanning, Guangxi, passed sentence on Chen Tuesday. He was convicted of bribery, deprived of political rights for life and had all his personal property confiscated, the Guangxi High Court said in a statement.
