Sam Hou Fai, the mainland-born long-time president of Macao’s top court, has announced his candidacy for chief executive of the special administrative region (SAR), one and half months ahead of the leadership election.
Sam, 62, has just been relieved of his duty as president of Macao’s Court of Final Appeal, a role that he had held for nearly 25 years, according to an executive order issued earlier this week. The SAR’s laws require chief executive candidates resign from all public government positions before running.
